Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data SciCampus collects, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have.

1. Introduction

SciCampus ("SciCampus", "we", "us", or "our") provides a suite of AI-assisted tools for academic and research work, including AI content detection and similarity checking, an AI text humanizer, an academic journal-matching tool, and a personal file manager (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use the Service, and it applies to all users worldwide, wherever they access the Service from.

By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given to them in our Terms and Conditions.

2. Who we are

3.1 Account information

  • First and last name

  • Password (stored only as a salted, irreversible hash — we never store or can retrieve your plain-text password)
  • Account status information, such as your subscription plan, chosen tool preferences, and daily usage counters

3.2 Content you submit

When you use one of our AI tools, you may submit text, or upload documents (such as PDF, DOCX, or plain-text files) for analysis — for example, a manuscript for AI-detection and similarity analysis, a passage of text for humanization, or a title/abstract/keywords for journal matching ("Your Content"). We process Your Content to generate the results you request and to maintain your run history so you can revisit past results, download generated reports, and manage files you have uploaded to your personal file storage.

3.3 Usage and log data

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the Service, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, timestamps, and general diagnostic and error logs. This information helps us secure the Service, diagnose problems, and understand aggregate usage trends.

3.4 Payment and transaction data

If you purchase a paid plan or additional usage, we and our third-party payment processor(s) collect transaction details necessary to process your payment — such as the plan or package purchased, amount, currency, transaction/reference identifiers, and payment status. See Section 7 for more on how payments are processed.

3.5 Communications

If you contact our support team, subscribe to updates, or respond to an email-verification or notification message, we collect the content of that communication and your contact details so we can respond to you and keep a record of the interaction.

4. How we use your data

We use the personal data described above to:

  • Create and administer your account, including verifying your email address and authenticating your sessions
  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including running the AI tool you request and delivering results, reports, and downloads
  • Process payments, apply plan entitlements and usage limits, and maintain billing records
  • Send you service-related communications, such as email-verification codes, security alerts, and run-completion or account notifications
  • Respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account
  • Monitor, secure, and troubleshoot the Service, including detecting fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the Service's reliability, usability, and feature set
  • Comply with our legal obligations, enforce our Terms and Conditions, and protect our rights and the rights of other users
  • With your consent, send you optional product updates or marketing communications, which you may opt out of at any time

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use the content of your academic documents to train AI models for other users or for purposes unrelated to providing you the Service.

Where the GDPR or a similar data protection law applies, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:

  • Performance of a contract — to create your account, provide the tools you request, and process payments for the plans you purchase
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve our product, provided these interests are not overridden by your data protection rights
  • Consent — for optional marketing communications and any non-essential cookies we may introduce, which you can withdraw at any time
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements

6. AI processing of your content

Our AI Detector, Similarity Checker, Humanizer, and Journal Finder tools process the text or documents you submit through automated systems in order to generate the outputs you request — for example, an AI-likelihood score with sentence-level highlighting, a similarity report against existing published sources, a rewritten version of submitted text, or a list of matched academic journals. These outputs are generated automatically and are provided for your personal reference and research assistance.

Automated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unavailable at times, and should not be treated as a final or authoritative determination of authorship, originality, plagiarism, or journal suitability. See our Terms and Conditions for details on how outputs should and should not be relied upon.

7. Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Payment processors. We currently accept payment via select cryptocurrencies, processed through a licensed third-party cryptocurrency payment processing partner. That processor receives the transaction data necessary to complete your payment (such as the amount, currency/asset, and wallet or transaction identifiers). We are also working to add additional international payment methods, such as card payments through providers like Stripe or similar regulated payment providers; once available, this policy will be updated to reflect any new payment processors and the data shared with them.
  • Service providers. We engage trusted vendors to help us operate the Service — for example, hosting and infrastructure providers, email-delivery providers (for verification and account emails), and customer-support tooling. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide services to us and to protect it appropriately.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of SciCampus, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy of at least equivalent protection.
  • With your direction. We may share information with third parties when you explicitly direct us to do so.

8. International transfers

SciCampus serves an international academic audience, and your information may be processed in countries other than the one in which you reside, which may have data protection laws that differ from those of your jurisdiction. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with applicable law (for example, relying on standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms recognized under the GDPR for transfers originating from the EEA or UK).

9. Data retention

We retain your account information, uploaded content, and run history for as long as your account remains active, so that you can access your past results, reports, and files at any time. You may delete individual files from your file manager at any time. If you would like your account and associated personal data deleted, you may request this by contacting us at [email protected]; we will action verified deletion requests within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required or permitted to retain certain information for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes, in which case we retain only what is necessary for those purposes and for no longer than required.

10. Cookies & similar technologies

Our dashboard application uses a strictly necessary, encrypted authentication cookie to keep you securely signed in; this cookie is essential to the Service and cannot be disabled while remaining logged in. We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by law, request your consent before doing so. You can also control cookies through your browser settings at any time.

11. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction — including encrypted transmission of data, hashed password storage, and access controls limiting who can view your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Restrict or object to certain processing of your data
  • Receive a portable copy of certain data you provided to us
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

13. Regional disclosures

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, California, or another jurisdiction that grants residents specific statutory data protection rights, those rights apply to you in addition to (and are exercised in the same way as) the rights described in Section 12. We do not sell or "share" personal data as those terms are defined under applicable U.S. state privacy laws, and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

14. Children's privacy

The Service is intended for use by students, researchers, and academic professionals and is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (for example, journal publisher pages surfaced by our Journal Finder tool). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any information.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Service, or applicable law. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email and/or by posting a notice on our website prior to the change becoming effective. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
